1978 Toyota FJ40
The FJ40 has always been more than a vehicle. It’s a passport for the long way around. This 1978 example carries all the classic lines and rugged charm of the original Toyota Land Cruiser, now updated with thoughtful mechanical work to keep it moving confidently into its next chapter.
By the late 1970s, the FJ40 had already become an off-road institution. Originally developed for durability and global utility, Land Cruisers like this were built to go anywhere, carry everything, and come back ready to do it again. It represents a kind of engineering honesty, built before “overland” became a trend, when function led and style followed naturally.
Recently, we gave this FJ40 a full engine rebuild, bringing new life to its already legendary foundation. Additionally, we upgraded it with some modern drivability, courtesy of a Holley Sniper fuel injection system, paired with Old Man Emu suspension to improve ride and capability without losing the truck’s original character.
Beyond the mechanical work, the details matter. Custom seats trimmed in Mopar material bring a subtle, rugged comfort to the cabin, while a Vintage Air A/C system adds something the original trucks never prioritized: summer usability.
Finished off with BFGoodrich tires, the stance feels exactly right—classic proportions with the kind of grip and confidence that invites the truck back onto dirt roads where it belongs.
Timeless rides like this deserve more than a spot outside. Stag Auto Club’s premium storage program keeps vehicles like the FJ40 protected, cared for, and ready between drives - secure indoor space built for classics, cruisers, and overland 4x4s alike.
